Chromies ("we", "us", "our") is a social photography app that lets you discover colors in your everyday surroundings. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how you can control it.

1. Data We Collect

2. Authentication

We offer Sign in with Apple as our primary authentication method. When you sign in, Apple shares your name and email address (or a private relay address) with us. We do not receive or store your Apple ID password.

3. Location Data

Chromies requests location access only when you use the app ("When In Use"). We use location in two ways:

Submission location: When you submit a photo, your device's approximate position is fuzzed to roughly 500 meters of precision before being stored. This powers the community map.
Photo EXIF data: GPS coordinates embedded in your photo by your device camera are extracted for neighborhood exploration features.

You can disable location sharing entirely by enabling "Hide my location" in Settings. When enabled, no location data is stored for your submissions.

4. How We Use Your Data

Provide and improve the app's features (challenges, hunts, collections, social feed)
Display your profile and submissions to other users
Send push notifications you opted into (challenge reminders, social activity, group invitations)
Moderate content and enforce community guidelines (reports, blocks, bans)
Show weather information for public hunt locations

5. Third-Party Services

We use a limited number of third-party services to operate the app:

We do not use any analytics, advertising, or crash reporting SDKs. We do not track you across other apps or websites.

6. Data Visible to Other Users

By default, the following is visible to other authenticated Chromies users:

Your display name, handle, avatar, bio, and favorite color
Your photo submissions, captions, and color scores
Your comments, reactions, and follow relationships
Your approximate location on the community map (if location sharing is enabled)

If you enable "Private account" in Settings, only users you approve as followers can see your submissions and activity.

7. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on Supabase infrastructure. All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Database access is protected by Row Level Security policies ensuring users can only access data they are authorized to see.

Uploaded photos are compressed (JPEG, max 2048px) before storage. Your profile photo is resized to 512px.

8. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your data is removed as described in Section 9.

9. Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time from Settings. When you delete your account:

Your profile, submissions, comments, reactions, follows, messages, and badges are permanently deleted
Your uploaded photos (avatar, daily photos, solo collection photos) are removed from storage
Your push notification tokens are deleted
This action is irreversible

10. Your Rights

You can:

Access your data through the app (your profile, submissions, and activity are visible to you)
Correct your name and handle in Settings
Delete your account and all associated data from Settings
Opt out of location sharing via "Hide my location" in Settings
Control push notification categories in Settings
Restrict visibility of your content by enabling "Private account"

11. Children's Privacy

Chromies is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the app or by updating the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of Chromies after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
